WELLBEING COACHING FOR LEADERS IN 5 STAGES
With over 25 years of experience in the international luxury hotel industry, I have firsthand experience with the challenges leaders face, especially those with global lifestyles and frequent international assignments.
Wellbeing Coaching for Leaders in all professional fields is designed to help leaders improve self-awareness, manage stress, cultivate healthy relationships, enhance emotional intelligence, communicate effectively across cultures, and maintain a healthy lifestyle in today’s fast-paced world. These key areas are crucial for long-term leadership success and personal well-being.
Taking up the Leadership Challenge:
- You are considering making a new and prestigious professional move, but have no unbiased ally helping you to gain clarity on your true motivations, creating an action plan and having an accountability partner to keep you on track.
Relationships & Family:
- You have been offered an international assignment, but are not yet sure if uprooting yourself and/or family, partner at this stage in your life is the right step and needed.
- Accepting a professional assignment abroad would enable you to save money for future plans, but your family has decided not to follow you abroad.
- You are contemplating becoming self-employed, but are unsure of the implications for your financial stability and your personal life.
Mind, Body & Spirit:
- You have been offered a promotion, but it is in a ‘hardship’ destination and you are concerned if and how your well-being will be affected.
- You strive for a healthy lifestyle, but a healthy diet and regular exercises are hard to maintain for you.
- Creating a home and sense of wellbeing is important to you, but currently you do not feel a sense of belonging and comfort.
Work-Life Balance:
- You want to spend more time with your partner/family, but work pressure makes you struggle to find the right work-life balance.
It can be lonely at the top:
- You are hired to run a company, but are facing internal politics, cross cultural and cross generational challenges.
- You are send on your first management assignment abroad, but lack the support system of your mother company to excel in your role.
- You are the highest up in the hierarchy and confidence and strong leadership is expected from you, but you have nobody to turn to, to address issues of stress, relationship troubles, anxiety, loneliness and job insecurity.
Managing Local & Multi-Cultural Teams:
- You like diversity in a team, but language and cultural barriers make it hard to effectively get your message across and tasks done.
- You have a great company to manage, but are in a location where you lack a pool of talents to employ or attract to.
- You are a manager wishing for your local team to take ownership and initiative, but realize that in your new posting abroad expectations of a manager are very different.
Communication:
- You are working for a company that puts financial and shareholders´ interests above those of clients and at the expense of the wellbeing of yourself and the team.
Women in Top Management:
- You are a women in a high management position who wants to advance further, but you struggle to combine motherhood and long hours with your job responsibilities.
- You are a woman who values autonomy, international career progress, but fear that you have to sacrifice future motherhood and a relationship in order to remain on your career track.
While non-management employees often support each other, share their challenges and have somebody to turn to, managers on the other hand often lack a discreet and trusted confident they can confine in without fearing potential professional consequences.
A lot of pressure is on the shoulder of leaders and a healthy organization starts from the top, therefore leaders with an excellent sense of wellbeing are vital for the success of a company.
Stage 1
THE GOAL
What do you wish to achieve?
- Identify and agree on a personal or professional area which needs to be developed in order to benefit you, your company & your customers.
- Agree on a concrete goal without dwelling on the past and use the goal as a yardstick against which to measure your progress and goal achievement.
- Focus on a challenging but realistic goal to provide sufficient motivation for you without leading to a loss of hope.
Stage 2:
YOUR REALITY
What current situation are you in?
- Once we have established your goal, you will explain your current situation, how you feel about it and what you expect the outcome of the goal will do for your wellbeing. We will explore exactly what the opportunities are, what you feel is holding you back and what the challenges are you are facing and what stage you are at to find a path or solution to reach your goal.
- We use that stage of my coaching process to allow you time to reflect and space to think and openly express your thoughts.
Stage 3:
YOUR OPTIONS
What can you do differently?
- Once your current reality of the area we focus on is fully unlocked, I will, during the third stage, challenge and guide you to greater understanding through the open ended questions WHEN, WHAT, WHO to explore and consider other options or a new approach to achieve your goal. You are fully in-charge of what your next action steps will be.
- Being your ally and respecting your WHY you want to achieve your goal and not using my own belief system, I will utilize questioning and encouragement to guide you towards reconsidering the relevant issues and reviewing your options. I will encourage you to ask yourself what steps you have considered and what you need to do to achieve your stated goals.
Believing that you have the answers yourself after digging deeper into the process of stage 3, you will be the owner of your goal and achieving it. I am not directing, I am merely opening your mind to find your own solutions.
Stage 4:
THE ACTION PLAN
When and how are you going to do it?
- In stage 4 after we have established in stage 3 the options you consider to achieve your goal, we will review them, and set concrete action steps designed to achieve the agreed goal. You commit that challenging, yet realistic WHEN and HOW actions will be met. Should the commitment level not be high enough, we will work on overcoming the hurdles that prevent you from taking the steps set.
- We will set up a firm follow up and review process and I will be your accountability partner. No journey is always 100% smooth sailing, do not beat yourself up. I remain by your side for support, listen and bring you back on track. If I would not believe in your capabilities to achieve your goal, you would not be here in stage 4 with me.
Stage 5:
THE RESULT
Have you achieved wellbeing through those results?
- It´s time to celebrate!
- We will have a review of your goal achievement, if it had the expected positive outcome for your wellbeing and if your expectations have been met.
- If you feel the coaching process has helped you in one area of your life and you wish to work now or in future on other areas, we can certainly set new goals.
Coaches are not consultants and do not need to have an expertise in a certain field, but most do according to a passion they have for a certain topic or past experience in that field.
One of the most important things in a client – coach relationship is trust, that you feel comfortable enough with that person to open up, that this person brings the best out in you and that there is a certain chemistry.
Once you have found that coach you can certainly carry on working with the coach on other topics which are not related to their niche.
Should you prefer to have a coach with a dual purpose, meaning coach and consultant, then you might approach a coach experienced in your industry or the coaching niche you fall into. But a good coach will always keep coaching and consultancy separate and let you know once he or she switches hats.
A FINAL WORD
Coaching is already practiced in many industries, but surprisingly in the hospitality industry, with some of the highest staff turnover numbers, some of the highest stress level, growing lack of talent, coaching is still not seen enough as a potential service which can address many of the issues and provoke changes in companies.
I would be honored to go the journey with you to bring about changes and help people to thrive in that industry and to fulfill their personal and professional goals.
